Warning to would be Walbro installers...

Just so everyone knows, a couple Walbros have been installed on 2nd gen VP44 trucks.

They appear to be working well. In the process of doing this, we learned a few things, namely that the stock stock return line is very restrictive. So restrictive, in fact, that all one needs to do is install a bypass line (without a regulator) and you should see 17 PSI at the VP44 at idle.

In order to install a regulator, a second, low restriction return line must be installed, along with a high flow regulator.

You can read about the installations here:

Cummins Engine Swaps

I love the Cummins ISB engines. Tough, dependable, good or great fuel economy, simple to work on. They are excellent engines. So excellent, in fact, that I put one in my 99 Ford Superduty.

Why not just buy a Dodge with an engine already in it ? I almost did buy a Dodge when I bought the Ford, but I wanted a true crew cab truck. The Dodge megacab trucks were not available when I did my swap, and besides my Superduty is just like new. Why sell a good thing ?

The swap took a month of miscellaneous spare time preparation and 8 days to actually do. I could do one quicker than that now.

I'll post more as time goes on.

Here is my truck. (Click for a larger image.)

Here is the engine.

It has changed a bit since then. This picture was taken shortly after it was installed. I've still got some clean up work to do on it as well. I installed it, did the 2 micron filter and filter lid gauge and haven't looked at it much otherwise.

I need to say a big THANKS to Marty Bursel for helping me with my swap. He swapped a 2nd gen (12Valve) into his Ford. I must have sent him a hundred emails on clutches, wiring, adapter plates, etc. and he answered them all. Without his help, I probably wouldn't have done my swap. Thanks Marty.

Marty goes by FrankenDezul on www.cummins-conversion.com.

I hang out there too. I am cummins_superduty. There is another guy that goes by CumminsSuperDuty. I used it first. It makes me mad that the moderator let another guy have a name that is so similar.

Walbro Fuel Pumps.

As some of you know I am a proponent of Walbro (and high pressure EFI fuel pumps in general) for feeding the Cummins 2nd and 3rd gen Dodge trucks.
